Significant Delays at MIRRAT Due to Increased Quarantine Failures and Overstaying Cargo
MIRRAT (Melbourne International RORO Automotive Terminal) has recently reported a notable increase in cargo failing DAFF Quarantine inspections. Over the last four days, 3,814 units have not passed these inspections, leading to a total of 5,300 units being held for treatment. MIRRAT’s team is equipped to handle biosecurity risks with their accredited facilities, including wash bays and inspection pits, but this process is time-consuming.
Additionally, As of last Friday, 2,283 cleared units have overstayed their free-time allowance, further occupying terminal space. This excess occupation is causing disruptions in both vessel and terminal operations, leading to efficiency losses and delays. MIRRAT expects this congestion to persist for the next three to four weeks, depending on the rate of Quarantine failures.
Presently, three ships are waiting at anchorage for a berth, and seven more are scheduled to arrive in the next nine days. WAAVV will keep providing updates as the situation changes.
